1. A research published Jan 2018 in European Journal of Preventive Cardiology:
We identified 658 studies and included 46 studies with 1184 participants for the final analysis. … By substituting sitting with standing for 6 hours/day, a 65 kg person will expend an additional 54 kcal/day… translated into the energy content of about 2.5 kg of body fat mass in 1 year.
2. A BBC study October 2013:
If you stand for 3 hours a day for 5 days that’s around 750 calories burnt. Over the course of a year it would add up to about 30,000 extra calories, or around 8lb (3.6 kg) of fat… the equivalent of running about 10 marathons a year.
3. A research published Jan 2014 in Journal Circulation: Heart Failure:
82 695 men aged ≥45 years from the California Men’s Health Study without prevalent heart failure who were followed up for 10 years … Men who sat for at least 5 hours a day and got little exercise had more than double the heart failure risk of men who were very physically active and sat for 2 hours or less a day… No matter how much they exercised, men who spent 5 or more hours a day sitting outside of work were 34 percent more likely to develop heart failure compared to those who sat 2 hours a day or less, read guides published here…
4. A University of Queensland study published in Aug 2015 in The European Heart Journal:
…we gave activity monitors to more than 780 men and women aged between 36 and 80 … An extra 2 hours a day spent standing rather than sitting was associated with ~ 2% lower average fasting blood sugar levels and 11% lower average triglycerides (fats in the blood)… Extra standing time was also associated with higher average levels of the good type of cholesterol …
