Description
A compact and stylish FUJIFILM X entry-level interchangeable-lens camera with a large APS-C CMOS sensor and EXR Processor II.
The X-A1 has the compact and lightweight feel of Fujifilm’s recently launched X-M1, but this time features an APS-C CMOS sensor and EXR Processor II offering high quality image capture.
The 16M large APS-C CMOS sensor provides rich tonal expression, creates a beautiful “bokeh” effect, and increases dynamic range and support for a maximum 25,600 ISO. Designed to enable one-handed operation with intuitive and quick selection of functions for casual shooting, all the operation buttons and dials are positioned on the right side of the camera’s rear panel. A dedicated video button to start / stop recording makes it really simple to take videos.
With a tiltable high-definition LCD monitor, built-in flash and Wi-Fi*6 link to transfer photos to smartphones, the FUJIFILM X-A1 has all the features consumers will be looking for when using a compact system camera for the first time.
Captures the true vibrancy of colours and incredible detail
The FUJIFILM X-A1’s large 16.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor captures rich tonal expression, increased dynamic range and sensitivity settings up to a maximum ISO of 25600. It also offers the ability to produce a beautiful “bokeh” effect – the aesthetic out-of-focus effect created when shooting with a shallow depth of field.
The sensor will deliver clear images with low noise even in low-light conditions at night and indoors where high sensitivity would usually be required. The sensor faithfully reproduces natural skintones and the vivid colours of the sky, from deep blues to the red hues of the setting sun.
Fast response times
The EXR Processor II offers quick responses with its start-up time of 0.5 seconds*1, shutter time lag of 0.05 seconds and a maximum burst speed of 5.6 frames per second (max. 30 frames*2), you will not be disappointed.
Adjust your settings quickly and easily
All of the adjustable buttons and dials are positioned on the right-hand side of the camera’s rear LCD panel in pursuit of optimum operability and ease-of-use. When holding the camera with just your right hand, the buttons have been designed to allow you to access all functions and to adjust the settings easily.
Equipped with two Command Dials, it allows users to adjust the aperture, shutter speed and exposure compensation quickly with their thumb.
The Mode Dial allows you to select the optimum scene setting with access to an [Advanced SR Auto] mode, which automatically recognises a scene type for fail-safe photography, and an [Advanced Filter] function to add artistic effects to your photos.
Super Intelligent Flash technology
The FUJIFILM X-A1’s high-precision built-in flash, rated at the equivalent of Guide Number 7*4, uses Fujifilm’s Super Intelligent Flash technology to regulate the amount of light it fires dependent on the scene. In low-light indoor portrait shots, the flash controls its output to reduce highlight clipping. It also provides the perfect fill-in flash when photographing people in backlit conditions or under intense sunlight casting strong shadows on the face, ensuring your shots are perfectly lit.
Wireless image transfer
The wireless image transfer function allows users to transfer photos immediately to a smartphone or tablet PC. It broadens the enjoyment of photography through the easy uploading of your favourite images to social networking sites or just enabling you to share them with your friends.
Additionally a PC Autosave feature is available, via Wi-Fi*6, this provides a simple means to back up your photos to your home PC. Just install the free “FUJIFILM PC AutoSave” software onto your PC and select which folder you want the photos to back up to, and then by linking your Wi-Fi*6 router and the X-A1 you will have set up a very simple to use backup for your photos on your home PC. Both incredibly useful and a big timesaver!
Get creative with your photography
With eight Advanced Filters, users can add special effects pre-image capture: namely Toy Camera, Miniature, Pop Colour, High Key, Low Key, Dynamic Tone, Soft Focus and Partial Colour (Red/Orange/Yellow/Greem/Blue/Purple). The camera also offers a Multiple Exposure mode which allows you to superimpose a second exposure onto the first exposure for a truly creative touch.

So what are critics saying about the X-A1?
http://www.photographyblog.com: Just like its more expensive siblings, the X-A1 again delivers excellent image quality, despite the change of sensor technology. Noise is noticeable only by its almost complete absence throughout the ISO range of 100-25,600, while the Dynamic Range function helps to boost contrast and detail. The 16-50mm kit lens is also worthy of mention, as although it has a cheaper build quality, it still offers sharp results throughout the focal range. The X-A1 is certainly right up there with the best APS-C sensor cameras on the market, so if image quality at a very affordable price is paramount, the X-A1 fits the bill. And despite it’s even lower price-point, the X-A1 is a very well-made camera, as well as successfully continuing the stylish retro look of the X-series family.
http://www.techradar.com: The X-A1 scores well for build and functionality and price, which makes the slight dip in image quality in comparison with the Fuji X-M1 palatable. It also provides a step into Fuji’s X-system, which has a growing collection of lenses.
http://www.whatdigitalcamera.com: While the Fujifilm X-A1 is intended to be an entry-level model for Fujifilm’s X-series cameras, it is an outstanding camera in its own right. If you can live without a viewfinder you’ll discover what is arguably the best CSC in its price bracket.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/: The Fujifilm X-A1 delivers an excellent standard of image quality, is an attractively designed camera and has a strong level of performance. While the lenses in the X series might not be the cheapest on the market, the X-A1 is well worthy of consideration in the entry-level CSC market.
