Why might I need a red filter?

There are two typical applications for the red filters in photography:

1. Under-water photography

A Red filter filters out the Blue color of the water and thus returns the red colors lost in the water, This makes the images have better contrast and richer details. AP red filter is perfect for shooting at up to15m (50ft)  underwater, if deeper the photos might not get sufficient exposure.

2. Nature and Landscape Photography

Red filters produce a very strong effect and significantly increase contrast. Landscape photographers often used red filters to produce very bold and dramatic results. A red filter increases the contrast between red flowers and green foliage, deepens a blue sky, and makes white clouds pop out. It can also decrease the effects of haze and fog.  In some cases, several red filters stacked on each other could even turn the sky black.
