Description
The IT-CEO IT190 is a docking station for up to four 3.5” or 2.5” SATA hard drives or SSDs (solid state drives). It allows you to connect up to four drives to your computer via USB. This hard drive docking station does support USB 3.0 for data transfer speeds up to 5Gbps but will also work USB 2.1 USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 so it is suitable for older computers too. This four slot USB hard drive docking station is the perfect solution to access your stored data across multiple drives. It works like a hard drive caddy but for more than one 3.5” or 2.5” SATA hard drive or solid state hard drive.
Key Features:
- Supports hot plug and play – allows you to connect and disconnect drives while the dock is connected to your computer. Please note that you should not remove or add drives during file transfer. This will cause the transfer to be interrupted and may cause damage to your drives.
- Supports drives up to 6 TB each giving you the power to access to up to 24 TB using four 6 TB drives
- Works with Windows 8/7/Vista/XP/2000/ME/98/SE Mac OS 8.X-10.X and Linux kernel 2.4 onwards
- Compatible with both 2.5” (standard size of laptop hard drive) and 3.5” SATA hard drive for ultimate flexibility
- Top slot-loading design for easy access to all drives
- Works with SATA HDD (hard disk drive) and SSD (solid state drive)
- Status LED indicator for each hard drive slot
This dock is perfect for anyone who has a large number of hard drives. Rather than having to use an individual external hard drive enclosure for each drive the IT190 allows you to connect up to four drives with one device. This saves you form having to occupy lots of USB ports and having many untidy extra cables that comes with multiple external hard drives.
It is extremely easy to use the SATA docking station. You just insert the 3.5” or 2.5” HDD hard drive or SSD hard drive into one of the four docking bays, turn the power on and connect the docking station to your computer via USB. Your computer will then automatically detect the drive/s and you can access them just as you would your computer’s internal hard disk drive. The IT190 even supports USB-HDD boot as long as your motherboard is also compatible with this function. This means that you can boot your computer from one of the hard drives in the HDD docking station rather than your computer’s internal hard drive, great for anyone who uses multiple operating systems.

FAQs
Q. Does the IT190 hard drive docking station support RAID? Can I create a RAID array using this device? A. You can use this with software RAID to create a RAID 0 array of drives. This means that multiple drives are read as one drive by the computer. Data is written across the drives in ‘stripes’. This can allows for performance increases and fastest speeds. Unfortunately the one downside is that if one of the drives fails all data is lost across all the drives. Please note that all operating systems have different RAID support. Other versions of software RAID may be possible.
Q. Is there another way to get my computer to treat up to four hard drives as one volume? A. Yes you can also create a spanned volume so your computer will treat multiple drives as one. With a spanned volume each drive is filled up one a time. This means that if one drive fails you only loose the data from that drive and not all the data. This way unfortunately does not give any performance increase like with RAID 0. This setup is often referred to as JBOD (just a bunch of drives). This is possible in most versions of Windows.
Q. Can I install an operating system on one of the drives inserted into the docking bay and boot from this rather than the internal hard drive? A. Yes the IT190 docking station will support USB-HDD boot as long as the motherboard is also compatible with this. You will need to configure your computer to boot from the desired location.
Q. Can I remove or insert a hard drive into the docking station whilst another hard drive is in use? A. No if you remove or add a drive whilst another is in use you can cause damage and lost data / disk errors. When you add or remove a drive from the docking station whilst it is connected to a computer your computer will rescan the device for a list of connected volumes. This will disrupt any data transfer / reading that is taking place.
