1. Which type of transceiver is in this USB IrDA adapter?
No driver installation required under Windows XP, it is automatically
when the IrDA adapter was inserted into the USB port, however if you
get the error message mentioned in FAQ #4, you can first try:
go to " Control Panel" ---> "Device Manager"
--->"Infrared devices" --->"Sigma Tel USB-IrDA
adapter" --->righ click to select "Properties" --->
"Advanced" ---> change the default transceiver type to
"Vishay TFD"
If the above did not work, then install the driver as mentioned in
FAQ #4.
If your operation system is Windows 98 or ME or 2000, then you need
to choose the drive for the infrared transceiver which is either Vishay
6101E or Vishay 6102F version.
2. Is this IrDA adater compatible with my mobile phone?
Y-160 USB IrDA adaptor is compatible with all infra red enabled mobile
phones.
3. How to Use thie USB IrDA adapter with my mobile phone?
Please read review on this product, see below.
4. Error message "Wireless link interrupted- the link has been
blocked or the device has moved out of range", even when there
is no problem with the distance and nothing is being moved around?
Please insert the driver CD, and select the following path: "E:\Driver\Y-160\different
transceiver type use\Vishay 6101E\WINDOWS", E: means your CD
drive letter. then click setup, this shall install the driver to your
computer. After installation, go to " Control Panel" --->
"Device Manager" --->"Infrared devices" --->"Sigma
Tel USB-IrDA adapter" --->righ click to select "Properties"
and see wether the 'infrared tranceiver type' is 'Vishay 6101E'.
If not, change it to 'Vishay 6101E', otherwise the infrared connection
will be veryunstable. In addtion, if it takes quite a long time for
the OS to find themobile, it's highly recommanded that you change
the 'Min.Turn-Around Time'to '5.0mS. This will help to shorten the
searching time.
The following is the experience of Dave Hammer:
Dave purchased a Y-160 USB IrDA adapter from us, and met the above
error message when he tried to make it connect to the mobile phone.
The following is his original letter without any changes:
Hello again, after many hours of painstaking trouble shooting, I
tracked down my problem to the following two errors:
If you use the default Windows XP driver and set the transceiver
type to"Vishay TFD" then the device operates perfectly normally.
However if youopted to install one of the drivers off the CD provided
this 'default' windows XP driver actually disappears completely and
you can't get itback again! (Error on Microsoft's Part me thinks).
The only other way to use the product is to use the updated driver
andset the transceiver type to "Vishay 6102E" instead of
the transceivertype that your website states of "Vishay 6102F"
<- this has caused the most problems with the device.
I suggest that maybe on your website support section you mention
theseissues, and if you need any further information about my problems
in order to incorporate it into your support section please feel free
to email me.
Thanks for your time
Dave.
5. Mistakenly installed driver under Windows XP?
I have bought a y160 and it works perfectly. After reinstalling windows
xp
(due to virus), I made the mistake that I installed a driver for it,
stupid
me! I couldn't figure out how to choose the right driver. In the end
I
deleted the irstusb.sys file and simply unpacked the 1 from I386/driver.cab,
and chose it as the driver in hardwaresettings, thereby getting the
original
xp driver installed. If you like you can include this as a possibility
for
solving this problem. I only use the irda device with my mobile phone
(t310), still it has saved me a great deal of money on polytonez.
Actually I
am impressed that you can sell it at so low a price, since the performance
is equal (at least) to bluetooth and similar. I am one happy costumer
:)
I bought the y160 at www.cellshoppen.dk (I am a dane)
Kind regards
