All you need for a Wireless
Network (WLAN)
What is a wireless network for? Want to share the
Internet and other resources (files, printers ...) but don't
want to have those messy cables running all the way around
your home/office.
What is required? To build a small office / home wireless
network, you just need a wireless router and WLAN adapters
(wireless network card, for computers without them).
Which router? There are two types of broadband services
in UK: the NTL cable and the BT ADSL (including AOL, Wanado,
Freeserve, Tiscali, Yahoo ...). For NTL cable users, a cable
broadband router is required; for ADSL users, a wireless Ethernet&
Modem router is required.
Which WLAN adapters (wireless network cards)? USB
to WLAN adapters can be used for both laptop & desktop
and it works by simply plugging into a USB port; PCI to wireless
LAN adapter can be only used in desktop and you must open
the computer to insert the card into a spare PCI slot; PCMCIA
to wireless LAN adapter can be only be used in laptops with
spare PCMCIA (cardbus) slot.
